Teenage mom with baby
October 14, 2020 Birth Mothers

If I am under 18 years of age, can I still do a private adoption in Florida? Do my parents/legal guardian need to be informed and/or involved?

If you are considering to place your baby for adoption in Florida, it is helpful to know there is no age limit for birth parents. If you are a birth mother 14 years or older you can execute a consent for adoption to place your baby into a permanent loving home without the permission of your parents/family.  However, we believe it is important to have the support of a parent, family member or friend that understands your situation and is able to provide you with emotional support through this difficult time while you are pregnant and planning an adoption.  Although not necessary or required, the emotional support of a loved you can help you tremendously and you won’t feel alone in the process.

If you don’t have a supportive family member, ACF can still help you place your baby for adoption and all of our birth mothers receive free adoption counseling and support during her pregnancy and for years after the baby is placed for adoption.  We are always here to listen, help you through the process and provide you the tools you need in order to continue your life as successful as possible, after the adoption. Our private adoption agency has been around since 1992 and have no plans of going anywhere so we encourage birth parents to take advantage of our adoption professionals and counseling.

If you are a birth parent who is 14 years of age or younger, you must have a parent, legal guardian, or court- appointed guardian ad litem to assist and advise you to the adoption plan and to witness consent. In the case you are 14 or younger, family support is legally necessary and emotionally helpful. ACF will also have an attorney represent you and explain all your legal rights to ensure you completely understand the process of placing your baby for adoption in Florida.

No matter your age, we can help you place your baby for adoption.  We have assisted many young women and teenagers in placing their baby for adoption.  ACF has many years of experience dealing with this type of situation and our adoptive parents are very loving and understanding.  In all cases, the adoptive parents respect your situation and will follow your lead in terms of the type of relationship you wish to maintain with them after the placement, whether it be open and ongoing communication or whether you need to take some time to heal emotionally after the adoption and continue communication at a later time.  We are here to help you 24 hours, seven days per week.
